CWC 2011 Outright Index Guide:

All the firms have India (27-30 Sporting Index) as favourites for the cup and rightly so considering they will be on home soil for much of the tournament. They have a mighty batting line-up and the little master Tendulkar will wnant to make his final world cup a victorious one.

One-day specialists Sri Lanka (23-26 Extrabet.com) can beat anyone on their day and will be very tough to beat if they post anything over 275. The spin twins of Mendis and Muralitharan (also playing in his last CWC) may hold the key on slow, turning pitches.

Australia (23-26 Spreadex) are coming off the back of an impressive 6-1 series victory over England -their players having found a new lease of life after their Ashes thrashing. They have won the trophy on the last three occasions and always seem to produce the goods in this tournament.

The ever-disappointing South Africa (21-24 Extrabet.com) always promise so much yet fail to deliver -never having got past the semi-finals stage, even when playing on home soil back in 2003. The Proteas will be relying on their pace attack of Steyn and Morkel to take early wickets and restrict opponents to under 250.

And so onto the enigma that is Pakistan (17-20 Spreadex), well you bet on them entirely at your risk. Enough said really.

New Zealand
(14-17 Spreadex) and West Indies (14-17 Sporting Index) should only be bit-part players in this tournament, and although they may provide one or two shocks along the way, they don't really have the strength-in-depth to win the tournament outright.

And what of the mighty England (19-22 Extrabet.com)? Will they be playing in the final on April 2nd? If you had asked this question on New Year's Day then the answer might have 'Yes'. But since their recent poor showing in the ODI series against Australia and the loss of key players to injury, the answer is now only 'Maybe'. Anything less than 2nd place in the group stages may consign them to an early exit...

So Where's The Value In The 2011 CWC?

a) Total Wides

Whilst we don't anticipate this market achieving the notorious 979 (from only 42 matches) that it did back in 1999 (costing Sporting Index a rumoured £1/2m), we do see it topping the 780 on offer with Spreadex. Over the 49 matches, that works out at just under 16 per game. The umpires are very strict on anything on the legside in this tournament and also there shouldn't be any games that end too early -due to the relative parity of the teams in world cricket these days. So buying seems the smart move.
Buy @ 780 (Spreadex) and cheer every time the umpire signals...

b) High Team Score
As we stated previously, there is more parity in world cricket these days -so the chances of a team knocking up 400+ in this tournament are slim. Add to that the lack of a really soft team like Namibia or Bermuda and that leads us to think that around 370 will be the top team score. Extrabet.com are offering a generous 393 that will be seeing some of our hard-earned dough.
Sell @ 393 (Extrabet.com) and smile when the 'minnows' bat first!
