"Fences Successfully Jumped" (Extrabet)
Hats off to Extrabet for coming up with this fantastic spread! This market covers the number of fences successfully jumped by all 40 runners over the 30 obstacles. The spread is currently 785 - 810 at the time of writing, although this may rise if the ground becomes heavier. This is the ultimate spread for having an interest in absolutely everything that happens in an event. Last year's result was 847, this may give you an idea of what to expect...

"Splengths" (Extrabet)
This is the winner's starting prices (SP) multiplied by the Winning Distance (Lengths) -hence the name of the spread "Splengths". With the spread set at 161 - 176 you will need a surprise winner to run away from the field if you are a buyer. Last year's make-up was 50 (5 lengths X 10/1), so would have been good for sellers, but 2009 would have finished at 1000!!

The trading desk at Sporting Index have provided us with their thoughts and views for the upcoming Grand National -so we thought we would share them with you...

Trading Talk – Grand National 2011 – All Aboard the National Express!

The Grand National is the biggest betting race of the year and this year's contest looks as competitive as always. Tony McCoy ended his National hoodoo with Don't Push It last year and they will be trying to become the first dual winner since Red Rum in 1977. However, they must carry top weight of 11st 10lb and only Red Rum, in 1974, has carried a weight that big since 1951.

Champion trainer Paul Nicholls is another yet to win the world's most famous steeplechase, but he will be hoping the Sir Alex Ferguson-owned What A Friend can break his duck. A fast finishing fourth in last month's Gold Cup, he was an impressive winner of the Totesport Bowl 12 months ago and the handicapper would certainly have raised him a few more pounds if he could.

The Irish had a disastrous run in this race until father and son combination, Ted and Ruby Walsh, teamed up with Bobbyjo in 1999. Since then, horses from the Emerald Isle have won it another four times, although the last three winners have been trained in England.
Favourite backers have done reasonably well in recent years with three of the last six jollies obliging. However, Silver Birch's win in 2007 at 33/1 and Mon Mome's victory two years ago at 100/1 show just how hard it can be for punters.
